Six ways to play scenes

At the heart of every performance is the scene, the building block on which all improv shows are created. Two or more people, onstage, making it up. If you can do that well, you can play any format, be in any show.

There is, of course, no single universal prescription for creating a successful scene. Some are long, some short, some touching and tender, some daft and knockabout. To play a great scene, you need to have a variety of tools in your toolbelt, the ability to recognise what is required at any one moment and the willingness to change tools at a moment's notice, responding to what the scene requires.

During this course, you will be introduced to six different ways into scenes, six techniques that will help you sustain easy, fluid scenework which supports your partner and feel delightful and easy to play. Each week we will introduce a new approach to scenes, while allowing chances to build on previous work and reflect on how the techniques support and compliment each other.

A new tool in your tool box every week, leading to emotionally grounded, rewarding and hilarious scenes which are simple to play!

This class is for those who have some improvisational experience. We recommend a year or so of regular training and some performance experience. Email jules@thnenurserytheatre.com if you have any questions.

This course takes place over eight Tuesdays from 7-10pm at the Nursery training Centre, Capital House, 42 Weston Street, SE1 3QD and costs £165.
