Dean Stevens' Gaggle o' Travelers: Twenty Five Years of El Salvador Friendship!
Featuring Fellow Travelers: Suzie Giroux, Linda Sharar, Ed White, Sue Kranz, Meg Rayne!
We celebrate an unending friendship with four villages. We travel every six months, accompanied by whoever wants to come, including many repeat offenders, some who have gone many times. Also including all of the musicians who will perform this evening!
For too many decades Dean Stevens has delighted audiences of all ages throughout the
Americas. An exuberant performer of distinctive style and wit, he combines an intricate, self-taught guitar style with a versatile and expressive singing voice. He has established himself as a formidable creator and interpreter of a wide spectrum of songs in English and Spanish.
His own material explores a variety of personal and social topics, paints sketches of people and places, celebrates the Earth, and annoys the narrow minded.
Linda Sharar has been a steady presence on the Northeast singer/songwriter circuit for over 25 years. With three independently released CDs, she has performed on stages at some of the top venues in the country, including Club Passim in Cambridge MA, the Iron Horse in Northampton MA, Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem PA, the Bottom Line in New York City and Eddie's Attic in Atlanta GA. She has also been invited to appear at well known festivals such as the Cottonwood Festival in Atlanta, the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale NY and the Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville TX. Linda uses her creative gifts as a songwriter/performer to fund-raise for charities and special causes, and was instrumental in the success of the first RESPOND compilation, which raised over $150,000 for the RESPOND shelter in Somerville MA and was hailed as the "Top album of 1999" by Billboard Magazine.
Meg Rayne has sung all of her life, born to a father who played clarinet and shook the walls of their house every time he played hi favorite Big Band '78s. Meg and her husband had a band in the '80s called Legacy. Meg is a healer, and environmental activist and producer, not to mention an uplifting and inspiring creator of songs.
Ed White is the Ukulele King of Central Square and Greater Cambridge, and the Pied Pipier of El Figural, equally beloved by Cantab Open Mic goers and children of Salvadoran villages alike. His prolific output of songs has been noticed and recorded by the likes of Geoff Bartley and Dean Stevens.
Sue Kranz is a songwriter, flute player and a Spanish teacher to kids. She often works as a duo with her partner songwriter Ben Tousley. In 1996 Sue took a sabbatical and as part of her worldwide trek, spent several months in El Higueral, El Salvador.
Suzie Giroux sings like an angel, and has for 25 years, served you refreshments at Tremedal Concerts, and served as treasurer of the Watertown El Salvador Sister City Committee, whose 27 years of joyful concert promotion and El Salvador advocacy we celebrate tonight.
