A stray bullet from Don Alvaros gun accidentally kills Leonoras father, activating an unstoppable chain of fateful misunderstandings for the star-crossed lovers, including merciless pursuits and murderous revenge the result of the force of destiny. Next to Verdis heavenly music (with three famous arias), it is this depiction of the fury of chance, of the one split second that can change people's lives forever that makes this work one of the most fascinating and challenging in the Verdi repertory.
