Tommy Martin, Kevin Buckley, and John Bolduan
Tommy Martin took his first Uilleann Pipes lesson from Dublin piper, Mick OBrien, in 1984 at the age of 12. His professional career started in 1990 when offered a place in the band for Jurys Irish Cabare, a position which he shared with Mick OBrien. Then in 1996 Tommy took a job organizing and playing at Irish music nights in Irish pubs in Hong Kong. This led to more work in Asian cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Singapore, and Tokyo over the coming years. Back in Europe, Tommys talent and experience took him to perform in almost every country with many different bands. He now lives in St. Louis, Missouri. When not working with such bands as Teada (Irish Music Awards winners), Irish Christmas in America, and the Emmy-nominated Celtic Woman, he also makes Uilleann pipes and pennywhistles.
Kevin Buckley started learning Irish fiddle tunes at the age of 9. In his formative years, he played all over the country with his music school, St. Louis Irish Arts, and placed in a variety of music competitions (Fleadh Cheoil) both in the Midwest and in Ireland, where he lived for a year. During this time, Buckley also began to compose music (later released as Grace Basement) and broaden his range to include many types of folk music, blues, jazz, rock and pop. All the while sustaining his reputation as an accomplished traditional musician, Buckley has become a much sought-after session musician and studio producer, incorporating his wide musical palette into his trademark tasteful playing and unique improvising.
John Bolduan, St.Louis native, musician, friend, international traveler, and linguist extraordinaire, exported himself to Bilbao, Spain some years ago and has only recently moved back. A classically trained guitarist, John made his own path musically. While other young teens spent their time doing whatever teens do, wed often find John attending Focal Point shows, inventing strange, wonderful guitar compositions, writing songs, soaking up any and every musical style he possibly could, practicing Capoeira on the sidewalk, or disappearing for months on end to visit foreign lands. Currently, John spends almost all of his spare time as a fine practitioner the more complicated tunes of Ireland (his most recent fascination).
