Chuckanut Radio Hour with Special Guest T.C. Boyle, San Miguel--Fiction
The Chuckanut Radio Hour is a radio variety show that began in January 2007. Each Chuckanut Radio Hour features a guest author and includes guest musicians, performance poet Kevin Murphy, Cascadia Weekly columnist Alan Rhodes, an episode of "The Bellingham Bean" serial radio comedy, and some groaner jokes by hosts Chuck & Dee Robinson and announcer Rich Donelly. The Chuckanut Radio Hour's first guest was Erik Larson and has since included Alexander McCall Smith, Elizabeth George, J.A. Jance, Sherman Alexie, Tom Robbins and Garrison Keillor, among many others. The Radio Hour airs every Saturday evening at 6pm and Sunday at 9pm on KMRE 102.3FM. The musical guest for tonight's show is Grammy-nominated composer and pianist David Lanz.

This month's author guest is T.C. Boyle for his new novel San Miguel. T.C. Boyle's newest and fourteenth novel, San Miguel is a soaring historical narrative about two families, one in the 1880s and one in the 1930s, trying to start new lives on a windswept, near-desolate island just off the coast of southern California. San Miguel is as strong and vivid and urgent a piece of writing as Boyle has ever done, a haunting and heartbreaking novel that pulls no punches. Boyle describes the island's unending rain, fierce winds, and impenetrable fog, and the effects these natural forces have on the minds and bodies of his characters, with searing, memorable prose, rich with period detail and evocative, dramatic tension.

T.C. Boyle is the author of thirteen previous novels, including New York Times bestseller The Women and most recently, When the Killing's Done. He has also published nine collections of short stories and has won the prestigious PEN/Malmud Award for Excellence in the short story. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, he lives in California.

Tickets for the Chuckanut Radio Hour are $5 and will soon be available at BrownPaperTickets.com and at Village Books. Doors open at 6:30pm, and you must be seated by 6:45pm as the show begins promptly at 7pm. Co-sponsored by the Leopold Retirement Residence, 12th Street Shoes, Fairhaven Pizza, and the Fairhaven Village Inn.
