Jamie Laval, with Dan Compton
On the heels of his critically acclaimed 10-week tour throughout Scotland, France, and Iceland, Jamie Laval returns to his original home in the Pacific Northwest for a homecoming evening of Celtic music and stories joined by Portland guitarist Dan Compton.
Jamie captures the audience with his passionate performances of traditional Celtic music, showcasing his stunning virtuosity, contemporary flair, and uncanny imitation of Highland bagpipes. One of North Americas finest practitioners of traditional Scottish music (San Jose Mercury News) and The next Alasdair Fraser (Press & Post), Jamie has performed for Her Majesty the Queen and presented a TED Talk. An evening concert experience with Jamie combines toe-tapping melodies, amusing and informative stories, foot percussion, and an innovative arrangement style to create a beautiful atmosphere of the Scottish Highlands.
A native of Seattle, Jamie initially studied classical violin at the Victoria Conservatory and made his living as a professional symphony musician, recording studio artist, and contra dance fiddler. But his passion for the haunting sounds of rural Scottish folk music eventually usurped all other preoccupations.  He won the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship in 2002.
Share Jamies passion for traditional Celtic fiddle music at the Phinney Neighborhood Center at a special Sunday night concert on, October 16, 2016.
