Vista PEAK Campus Presents An Evening with Soul/Jazz Singer KENYA
Vista PEAK Campus is pleased to present a family friendly evening of live music performed by international recording artist KENYA.  Hosted by Vista Peak's Exploratory School, KENYA will perform an eclectic mix of original and familiar soul and jazz music accompanied by a 3-piece band.  The performance will be held at the Preparatory High School Auditorium and will include a special opening act performance by Vista Peak vocal/choir high school students.  The evening is open to the general public, VIsta Peak's student body, parents, staff, and the local community.

KENYA (formal name Kenya McGuire Johnson) is a native of Denver, Colorado who began singing at the age of eight and playing flute in third grade. By middle school, she was fully active in the arts as a member of advanced and exclusive citywide choirs, jazz ensembles and theater troupes in the Denver Public School system. She also studied voice with Ms. Bennie Williams, former choir director at George Washington High School in Denver & vocal coach of Grammy Award winning jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves, which gave Kenya skills as an adolescent that prepared her to open for such legendary acts as jazz drummer Art Blakey. While attending historical Black college Howard University in Washington, D.C., Kenya was a member of its renowned gospel choir. She graduated from Howard with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy which she practiced. She later earned a Master of Arts degree in counseling and student development, becoming a counselor and educator prior to becoming a full time musician.

KENYA is excited to return to her home state for this very special performance and hopes to encourage greater creative & cultural arts awareness within the community.
