On the Road Tour - Go Grape Nuts!

This tour highlights the bounty of fall. Well start at the commercial hazelnut farm of Jim Roth in Salem. He has a mature stand of trees and a younger patch producing hazelnuts for the Northwest Industry. We will learn about the disease resistant varieties of trees, pollination, pruning, tree diseases, ground preparation and harvesting.

Broadacres Nursery is owned by a master grape grower and educator. We will learn about different varieties which we will be able to taste. They will tell us all about how to grow and prune the grapes, and let us walk through their test gardens of all the different varieties. We will have a chance to purchase grape plants after our tour.

Our last stop will be at French Prairie farm. They will be all set up for their fall festival and will have fresh seasonal produce. A short educational session will set us up for a tour of their greenhouse and farm. Purchase opportunities will be plentiful for garden/farm products.
