Untitled, 1982

Focusing on the social environment in the artist's loft and the creative moments on the street, Untitled, 1982, was inspired by the 15 years artistic director/choreographer Daniel Wilkins spent in NYC among the late-night visual art community that once gravitated around Warhol and Basquiat. In the fittingly loft-like setting of Washington Hall, Wilkins will create a multi-media art installation that transports audience members into a world of reflection, ingenuity and pronounced gritty expressionism. Untitled, 1982, will incorporate post-punk new wave music as well as works Warhol and Basquiat collaborated on or listened to while creating. Polaroids by Maripol, the artist, fashion designer, and stylist, who is best known for styling Madonna in the mid-1980s, will also be featured in collaboration with Wilkins's athletic, eclectic--and unique-- choreography.
"In my quest to comment on Warhol's and Basquiat's lives, I received a signal from Warhol that the best testimony was to just create my own art, " said Wilkins, "Just to focus on the visual artists would be a daunting chore that would end up more like a dancing documentary than an original artwork. What I have created is just art--all my own. "
Wilkins formed DASSdance in 1996 after seeing a need for daring and innovative movement in the dance community. Incorporated with the State of New York as a 501 (c)(3) in 2000, DASSdance took up residency at Diane von Furstenberg-The Theater and created a sensation in the fashion industry. In 2004, DASS transitioned into a bi-coastal company with primary residence in Seattle. DASS's lineup brings together some of the most respected and beautiful contemporary dancers in Seattle, including Mia Monteabaro, BoJohn Diciple, Rachael Randall, Dade Glaser, Raelani Kesler and Allison Montgomery. Christina Cooley, star of Seattle stages for over a decade and DASSdance since 2005, will be retiring on the closing evening of Untitled, 1982.
