Women on the Brink: Voice and Vision
Thursday, May 26th at 7:00 PM

WOMEN ON THE BRINK: VOICE & VISION is an evening of performance and film featuring local and international spoken word artists, writers, and filmmakers. All will present work that honors, evokes, provokes, and embodies the female voice and gaze. The Thursday, May 26th event will held at Northwest Film Forum and will start at 7pm.

Internationally acclaimed spoken word artist Sheri-D Wilsons latest book is Open Letter: Woman Against Violence Against Women. Poet Blu the Baqi has just released How to Write a Fire. Spoken word artists Storme Webber, of Blues Divine; slam poet Molly Billows; and writer Julie Trimingham will all present new work. Indigenous dancers, mermaids, and Emily Dickinson make in appearances in films by Tracy Rector, Melissa Woodrow, and Trimingham, respectively.

The audience will be invited to engage with the artists at a reception in the Northwest Film Forum lobby following the performances. Books will be available for sale and signing. Tickets are free and available through brownpapertickets.com

WOMEN ON THE BRINK is a multidisciplinary group show curated by Tracy Rector. Rector chose the word brink for connotations of both peril and promise, the notion that some dramatic change is imminent. This is a show about women or the feminine we all encompass and transformation. Rector is a producer, a director, a curator, a film programmer, and an arts advocate. She is executive director of Longhouse Media and serves on the Seattle Arts Commission. She received the Horace Mann Award for her work in utilizing media for social justice. Women on the Brink includes installation, film, photography, visual art, music, and literary arts, and will be up May 12- June 4 at Vermillion Art Gallery & Bar.
