Takoma Radio Presents DC Highlife Stars

Takoma Radio presents DC Highlife Stars live at Allyworld on Saturday, May 7th. DC Highlife Stars is a rocking new collaboration between local bandleaders Eme Awa (Eme & Heteru) and Michael Shereikis (Chopteeth Afrofunk Big Band), featuring some of the best African musicians in the DC area. This is not an art project. This is for getting down! This is beer hall Africa, highlife and rumba, bikutsi, a little zouglou, some West African reggae and funky points in between. This is five world class groove masters from Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana and the US slinging deep-pocket bass and drums, soaring double-helix guitars and earthy harmonies, all so you can forget your troubles and dance.

The show will mark the culmination of a $20,000 donor match period for Takoma Radio. Every dollar you donate from now until May 7 will be matched and your gift will be doubled. This fundraising campaign will put us on the air THIS SUMMER, connecting us to hundreds of thousands of listeners. Join us in celebrating this generous gift as we groove and dance the night away at Allyworld, the new home of Takoma Radio.

Tickets for this intimate event are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Doors open at 7pm, performance begins at 7:30 pm.
