Merrimans' Playhouse Jazz Performance Series presents Lapis Trio

Lapis Trio is an acoustic group featuring the compositions of jazz guitarist Casey Nielsen. Caseys music draws on his study of the classical guitar and modern jazz. Casey will be joined by Dan Thatcher on upright bass and Bob Garrett on percussion. Casey Nielsen began studying classical guitar at age 13 with Roosevelt University professor, Paul Henry. Discovering a love for jazz music he began separate lessons with Chicago jazz guitarist, Neal Alger. Casey received his bachelors degree in Jazz Studies at Northern Illinois University. At NIU he had the privilege of playing in the NIU jazz ensemble and studying jazz and classical guitar extensively with internationally renowned guitarist Fareed Haque. Daniel Thatcher is a singular Chicago based bassist and composer, whose solid and supportive presence has been felt and heard among the citys richly varied and vibrant musical communities for the last 10 years and counting. Bob Garrett-wrote and performed percussion score for World premiere of Stings -The Last Ship. Bob has accompanied and/or composed for dance companies and choreographers. Bob is currently focusing his energy on composition and sound design for film and video.
