Writing about her daily life in Cuba and criticizing socialism, Yoani became well known and won international prizes. Because of her polemic posts, some say she is a CIA agent, others say she is a fighter for freedom of speech. After many years trying to obtain a permission to fly out of her country, the Castro brothers came to Brazil, and she ran into a lot of trouble
