Architectural Copyright: Understanding the Rights and Risks Related To An Architect's Instruments of Service
This informative presentation will include and overview of the history of the development of architectural copyright law and enable attendees to understand the foundation of the applicable laws.
Learning Objectives
1.Overview of the history of the development of architectural copyright law and the foundation of applicable laws.
2.Attendees will review the requirements for copyright protection in architectural design and the difference between ownership and copyright will be explained including a discussion on the method of registration and notice, timing of creation, and element of originality.
3.An interactive discussion including case studies will be conducted to explore the rights afforded architects by copyright law.
4.Discussion of methods architects can utilize to avoid the infringement of the rights of others in architectural design, especially when being asked by an owner to mimic the design of another.
