Tablao Sevilla, will recreate the "tablaos" café setting found in the traditional tablaos of Spain. All the emotion, drama and passion of traditional flamenco will be experience in this tribute to the art form. Effervescent heel-and-toe step combinations and volcanic shoulder and hip actions will present flamenco in its most pure and improvised form. SONIA OLLA Flamenco Dancer. Bailaora Born in Barcelona, Sonia Olla is a well-known flamenco dancer. She trained in Condal at the Instituto de Teatro y Danza where she specialized in Flamenco dance. After training with high caliber flamenco artists and teachers such as Merche Esmeralda, Manolo Marin, Mariquilla, and Antonio Canales, she began her professional career in the Rafael Amargo Company, followed by other artistic projects, the most notable being with Domingo Ortega, Aida Gomez, Nuevo Ballet Espanol, Eva la Yerbabuena, Rafaela Carrasco, and Maria Pages. (Tiempo al aire) "Time in the air" sets free the mature creativity of these two performers, setting new ground for this art form.
LAS GUITARRAS DE ESPAÑA The Spanish Guitar Duo features Diego Alonso (guitar) and Carlo Basile (guitar) as well as other members of the renown ensemble, Las Guitarras de España. Along with Diego and Carlo, Bob Garrett (percussion), Greg Nergaard (bass), and Chihsuan Yang (violin and Chinese Erhu) form the core group. The ensemble features original, instrumental Spanish guitar based material as well as some traditional flamenco, classical and fusion pieces sometimes incorporating vocals and dance. Spanish "flamenco-jazz" saxophonist, flutist, and vocalist, Antonio Mesa Fernandez joins the ensemble along with virtuoso Indian veena artist, Sarawathi Ranganathan in collaborative works featuring elements of flamenco, Spanish classical, Indian, and jazz styles. Flamenco dancer, Maricela Tapia will perform traditional and classical pieces with the ensemble.
