Robison, writer of the George Strait hit "Wrapped," will be the first headliner in the Plaza Theatre's new Plaza Live concert series when it kicks off on January 19.

Over the course of five critically acclaimed album releases (and one very cool Christmas record) Austin-based Robison has become the natural successor to Texas songwriting giants like Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Kris Kristofferson and Billy Joe Shaver, creating a body of work that speaks eloquently and soulfully of the not-so-simple joys and frustrations of modern life. His songs have been regularly hitting the upper reaches of the country charts in the hands of artists like the Dixie Chicks ("Travelin' Soldier"), Faith Hill & Tim McGraw ("Angry All the Time") and George Strait ("Desperately" and the aforementioned "Wrapped," which was nominated as 2007's Best Single of the Year by the Country Music Association).

But no one interprets a Bruce Robison song like the writer himself. With a voice as unadorned and unaffected as Texas' wide-open spaces, Robison has a laid-back vocal knack for easing the listener into a song's emotional core.

The Plaza's intimate auditorium with its terrific acoustics and great sightlines is just the place to sit and listen to one of Texas' premiere songwriters in smoke-free comfort.

The concession stand offers beer and wine as well as traditional movie theatre fare.
