Wholesale Success for North Coast Farmers
Atina Diffley of FamilyFarmed will lead an engaging day about best practices for small and mid-sized farmers. Success for small and mid-sized fresh produce farmers requires the capacity to produce consistent crops in a cost-effective system, and post-harvest practices to preserve quality and shelf life. Farmers also need an understanding of food safety practices to minimize risks, meet buyer's demands, and be in compliance with regulations. In this workshop we will discuss parameters of pricing in wholesale markets and how to look at enterprise budgets to make decisions and modifications about wholesale crops. Cost-effective and scale appropriate post-harvest handling systems will be discussed, and examples of farm systems will be given. The FDA Produce Rule will be discussed, and Food Safety Action Plans will be introduced.
