Wallace Roney and Anthony Wonsey Summit Meeting; Jenny Lin Classical Piano
A Night of Great Jazz and Classical Music Kicks off the Burlington Festival of Jazz and Classical Piano.

JENNY LIN. INTREPID VIRTUOSA
Jenny Lin is one of the most respected young pianists today, admired for her adventurous programming and charismatic stage presence. Her ability to combine classical and contemporary literature has brought her to the attention of international critics and audiences. She has been acclaimed for her "gift for melodic flow" by The New York Times. The Washington Post praises "Lin's confident fingers... spectacular technique... ", and Gramophone Magazine has hailed her as "an exceptionally sensitive pianist".

Born in Taiwan and raised in Austria, Jenny studied with Noel Flores at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna, with Julian Martin at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, and with Dominique Weber in Geneva. She has also worked with Leon Fleisher, Richard Goode, and Blanca Uribe, and with Dimitri Bashkirov and Andreas Staier at the Fondazione Internazionale per il pianoforte in Como, Italy. She holds a bachelor's degree in German Literature from The Johns Hopkins University and currently resides in New York City where she also serves on the faculty of the 92nd Street Y.

Jenny's extensive discography includes critically acclaimed recordings on Steinway & Sons, Hänssler Classic, eOne Records, BIS Records, and Sunrise Records. Since 2000, she has over twenty albums to her credit.

The New York Times called her disc of Federico Mompou's Música Callada "...beautifully recorded..."; Classicstoday praised her 24 Preludes and Fugues Op. 87, by Shostakovitch "...hands down the finest version of this massive work" and the disc was voted Best of 2009 by The Washington Post.

All-Music Guide raved: "The 11th Finger is a thrill ride for musical adventurers" and "Lin's playing is nothing less than superhuman", and Gramophone reported on her CD of Valentin Silvestrov "beautifully arranged programme...Lin is an ideal exponent of music whose superfine dynamic and textural contrasts create their own expressive intensity."

Other notable recordings have included Liszt Sonata and Schumann Fantasie, music for Piano and Orchestra by Ernest Bloch, Xavier Montsalvatge, Ma Shui-Long Piano Concerto, and Get Happy, an album of Broadway song arrangements.

WALLACE RONEY | ANTHONY WONSEY SUMMIT MEETING

Wallace Roney took lessons from Clark Terry and Dizzy Gillespie and studied with Miles Davis from 1985 until the latter's death in 1991. Wallace credits Davis as having helped to challenge and shape his creative approach to life as well as being his music instructor, mentor and friend; indeed he holds the distinction of being the only trumpet player Davis ever personally mentored.

In 1986, he succeeded Terence Blanchard in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was an integral part of Tony Williams's quintet. In 1991, Roney played with Miles Davis at the Montreux Jazz Festival. After Davis's death that year, Roney toured in memoriam with Davis alumni Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Williams and recorded an album, A Tribute to Miles, for which they won a Grammy Award. He has been an integral part of bands with Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Philly Joe Jones, Walter Davis Jr., Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, Jay McShann, David Murray and McCoy Tyner, as well as a featured soloist with Ornette Coleman, Sonny Rollins, Curtis Fuller, Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Dizzy Gillespie. In 1986, he succeeded Terence Blanchard in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. ANTHONY WONSEY

Anthony Wonsey is an adventurous yet flexible pianist who comes by way of Chicago, followed by a Berklee education, and an impressive resume on the New York scene. Wonsey skillfully blends these elements in his personal voice on the piano.   He has the soulful bite of the Windy City, the fully grounded academic training so prevalent in players today, and a sophistication forged in the metropolitan cauldron.
