West Side Story

This classical and enduring musical -- called by many the greatest American musical ever written-- will open this summer at the beautiful El Cerrito Performing Arts Center. YMTC is producing this show the way we think it ought to be done: with teenagers, who are at the heart of this story, played by teenagers, and the adults who surround their lives, played by adults.

We, at YMTC, are thrilled to bring this profoundly moving story, based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet about the power of love between two teenagers in an atmosphere of racism, hate and violence-- to our loyal audiences and newcomers alike.

YMTC is a non-profit, Berkeley-based company that produces professional caliber musical theater while providing exceptional theater training to students from the 7th grade through university level. We bring together the Bay Area's most talented and dedicated young singer/actors with professional directors, designers, and musicians to create theater that takes on challenging and sophisticated musical and dramatic themes, and that is always accompanied by a full, live orchestra.
