loversrock300dpiLovers Rock, often dubbed 'romantic reggae' is a uniquely black British sound that developed in the late 70s and 80s against a backdrop of riots, racial tension and sound systems. Live performance, comedy sketches, dance, interviews and archive shed light on the music and the generation that embraced it. Lovers Rock allowed young people to experience intimacy and healing through dance- known as 'scrubbing'- at parties and clubs. This dance provided a coping mechanism for what was happening on the streets. Lovers Rock developed into a successful sound with national UK hits and was influential to British bands (Police, Culture Club, UB40) Directed by JMenelik Shabazz, 2011, 96mins, musical documentary, English.

Honeytrap STILL 2Inspired by true events, it tells a story of fifteen-year-old Layla (Jessica Sula - Skins), who sets up the boy in love with her to be killed. Fresh off the boat from Trinidad and full of fairytale fantasies, Layla arrives to live with her mother in Brixton, London. She is soon swept off her feet by self-styled gang leader/rapper Troy. But in the dog-eat-dog world where being Troy's girl buys her envy as well as status, social outsider Shaun becomes her only true friend. When Troy discards her, Layla is left in ruins. She vows to rebuild herself as a hardened player in order to win him back and Shaun becomes a pawn in her game. Soon the forces she has set in motion are escalating out of control.
