Protecting the Local Lands We Love: The work of The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County: The Octagon Barn -- Wende David
This is the first course in a 3-part series exploring the work of our local land trust, The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County. Learn how The Land Conservancy permanently protects and lovingly restores land for the benefit of people and wildlife throughout SLO County. The series will begin with an overview of local land trust conservation efforts, followed by field trips to project sites that exemplify its key program themes.
During this first course participants will tour the nationally historic Octagon Barn and surrounding area and view a presentation about the site's visionary transformation into a community gathering place and trailhead for the Bob Jones City-to-Sea Trailhead.
Future courses will explore the Vintage Organics Farm in Los Osos Valley and Black Lake Ecologic Area at the Nipomo Mesa.
Wende David is currently the Major Gifts Officer for The Land Conservancy. Wende has a degree in Environmental Policy & Behavior from the University of Michigan. She previously served as a professional educator for students, teachers and clients, both in the classroom and in the field, and has extensive experience as a backcountry docent guide. Since 2006, Wende has grown private annual fundraising by over 200% and established a planned giving program worth over $1.5 million by connecting the community to The Land Conservancy's mission.
