"The New World Symphony: Dvořák in America," explores the influence of African-American and Native American music upon the work of the famed Czech composer Antonín Dvořák and consequently on music development worldwide. Written and directed by Vít Hořejš, music by Antonín Dvořák and African-American saxophonist James Brandon Lewis,set design Tom Lee performed by Czechoslovak American Marionette Theatre members Deborah Beshaw, Michelle Beshaw, Vít Horejš, Harlem-Lafayette, Theresa Linnihan, Valois Mickens, Jan-Peter Pedross and Ben Watts.
The company utilizes century-old Czech marionettes and modern puppets created by contemporary Czech master craftsmen. In performance, manipulator and puppet are equal acting partners, unified as characters and reciprocal alter egos. For "Dvorak in America" The company members will create new puppets of many sizes from musical instrument parts, found objects and traditional elements. The characters will be portrayed by marionettes, actors and musicians who will all be visible onstage.
