Book Talk: Unprocessed by Megan Kimble
What makes a food processed?

To answer that question, Megan Kimble began a fascinating journey through America's food system, past and present.  As she learned how wheat became white, how fresh produce was globalized and animals industrialized, she realized how that answer was inextricably tied to gender and economy, politics and money, work and play.

In January of 2012. Megan Kimble was a twenty-six year old living in a small apartment without a garden plot, but she cared about where food came from, how it was made and what it did to her body, and decided to go an entire year without eating processed food.  As a food writer, journalist and founding editor of Edible Baja Arizona, Kimble presents a unique perspective on her extraordinary year  she milled wheat, extracted salt from the sea, milked a goat, slaughtered a sheep, and lived an Unprocessed life while earning an income well below the federal poverty level.
