Drakes Hotel

Skyflight Productions presents an evening with Drakes Hotel from Omaha, NE on Friday August 3, 2012 at the Albert S George Youth Center at Barnesville Memorial Park in Barnesville, OH. "Drummers, schummers. This Omaha, NE hotel, relocated from Seattle and Santa Cruz, CA, is staffed by a husband and wife duo, producer/guitarist Chris Y. and singer Amy Drake. Their second-LP hospitality comes in the form of swirling neo-shogaze guitars, bass, and low-in-the-mix drum machines; so dance beats are there, but not the pair's raison de etre. That would be Y's dirty treated, detuned guitars (what amazing tones!) and Drake's aggressively cold singing. The latter has a set of pipes that strangely sound a lot like Kristen Hersh -- if you could imagine Hersh singing ice-coolly, fronting a band steering between Curve and Garbage. And if you don't like this CD, don't insult Drake; she's an instructor-level martial artist. Like the early-'80s Siouxsie, she's take-no-trash smart and saucy, an attitude tailor-made for the hypnotic, also-tough atmospheric guitar webs behind her."
