Nutcracker Burlesque 2015
Vivid Motion, Portland's "innovative and kinda quirky" dance company, is proud to invite you to celebrate a Portland tradition with them in their 13th holiday production of Nutcracker Burlesque. Vivid Motion's tantalizing twist on the classic tale runs Friday, December 11th through Saturday, December 19th, 8pm at St. Lawrence Arts 76 Congress St., Portland. Appearing on various 'Best of Portland' lists and declared "Best (Hopefully) Annual Event" by the Portland Phoenix in 2010, Vivid Motion Inc. is thrilled to present this, their lucky 13th, Nutcracker Burlesque.
Vivid Motion is shaking things up as it takes the whole story in a new direction! Reprising audience favorites from past shows with some saucy new twists and titillating choreography, this production is sure to excite and delight. At her Christmas party, Drosselmeyer, an absentminded magician, conjures fantastic worlds to help her dear friend Clara find her voice (and true love). This burlesque story is told through dance with humor and live music, costumed in fishnets, feathers, pointe shoes and garters. Featuring Drosselmeyer, Clara, the Nutcracker Prince, the Rat King, Dirty Dolls, Officer Naughty, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Waltz Girls.
The NB Ensemble will once again bring you rock versions of classic songs by Tchaikovsky and others we're sure you'll recognize; under the capable leadership of Music Director Joe Paulus (keyboards) and showcasing the talents of local musicians Remy Lindemann (guitar), Dominic Grosso (bass), and Branden Clements (percussion) in a jazz/rock ensemble.
Creating the magic in Drosselmeyer's workshop and party are director Alison Berry and veteran choreographer Emily Zack, giving both humor and sizzle to Act One. A fierce Battle by Brigitte Paulus gives way to an enchanting Snow, which turns up the heat. The Act II variations showcase the choreographic talents of MJ Emerson, Scott Potter, Michelle Kapschull, and Bruce Tracy. Among the corps of dancers are: Jessica Horowitz (Portland) as Clara, Scott Potter (Portland) as the Nutcracker Prince, Phillip Thibault (Biddeford) as the Rat King, and MJ Emerson (Portland) as Drosselmeyer.
Vivid Motion is a non-profit, community-based dance organization that focuses on making dance accessible and fun. Dancers come from all over Southern Maine and have varying levels of training. They are all eager to delight audiences with what reviewers call a "visual symphony" with "sly and witty musical variety". Take a break from the usual holiday stress - don't miss out on this hour and a half of holiday fun.

Tickets for all performances are $18. No children please. Tickets go on sale 8am Saturday, November 28th at www.vividmotion.org. Reservations are not accepted. Performances are: Fri 12/11, Sat 12/12, Sun 12/13, Wed 12/16, Thur 12/17, Fri 12/18 and Sat 12/19. All shows are at 8pm.
