Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) Comprehensive Overview - Oregon Statewide Teacher Inservice Day 2015
This Full-Day Comprehensive Overview of Collaborative Problem Solving includes lunch.

Located just across the freeway from the Woodburn Premium Outlet Mall.

Presented by Think:Kids certified professional trainer, Doris Bowman, M.S.Ed, this full-day intensive training is intended for mental health clinicians, educators, parents, and community partners with an emphasis in this particular training on applications for educators.  It is meant to give comprehensive exposure to the model.  Relationally based,  CPS views challenging behavior as a learning disability of some very crucial cognitive(thinking) skills necessary to handle the demands of everyday life.  Through a more empathetic and  accurate understanding of what is getting in a child's way, we (parents, educators, clinicians) are better able to intervene to support children through a collaborative process of teaching skills and solving problems.  For more information about the CPS model visit: www.thinkkids.org.

Learning Targets:
Provide an introduction to the philosophy of Collaborative Problem Solving.
Provide exposure to the assessment, planning and intervention components of the
         Collaborative Problem Solving model.
Provide strategies for when a child refuses or has difficulty with skills such as
cognitive flexibility, emotion- or self-regulation, or expressing his/ her concerns,
         among others.
Provide strategies for proactively working with children to build skills for areas that
        cause chronic challenges.

Doris Bowman, M.S.Ed., in Education/Special Education is a certified special educator, a Think:Kids Certified CPS Trainer, a Parent Coaching Institute Certified Parent Coach, and holds an Oregon PreK-12 administrative license.  She has also recently co-authored "Going to Bed is Easy Now", the first in a series of children's books designed to support young children with challenging behavior, and is soon releasing book #2 - "Going to School is Easy Now".  She has a broad background in special education with over 17 years' experience working with and supporting children with challenging behaviors as well as their families.  Doris has been using CPS in her work since 2007, and has been a certified CPS trainer and professional since January 2015.

Rick Bowman, M.A. in Clinical Psychology, is a Think:Kids Certified Practitioner in Collaborative Problem Solving, currently completing his Certified Trainer program.  He brings a broad background that includes leadership positions in the United States military, business, mental health and education.  He has functioned as a clinical consultant for mental health clinics and human service agencies, as well as large companies/organizations such as the National Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Alyeska Pipeline Corporation (made up of companies such as Exon-Mobile and British Petroleum).
