Peggy Seeger
Folk icon Peggy Seeger returns to the Phinney Center Concert Stage in a very special Tax Day Eve* Seattle Folklore Society concert on April 14th.

Peggy was born into music to parents Ruth Crawford Seeger and Charles Louis Seeger. Her older half brother, Pete Seeger is arguably one of the prime instigators of the American Folk Revival from 1946 to the present. Her late brother Mike Seeger demonstrated virtuosic skill on many instruments and encyclopedic knowledge of Appalachian music and lore. Peggy's contributions are legendary as well. Peggy's formal interest in music began with transcribing tunes at the tender age of 11. Who among us, cannot at least hum along to the melody of "Gonna Be an Engineer"? Her "Ballad of Springhill" is a truly iconic song about the tragic mining disaster at the Springhill mine in Novia Scotia. Peggy has more than twenty solo albums to her credit and she collaborated on many more with her late husband Ewan McColl. Her 2010 album with brother Mike, "Fly Down Little Bird" reveals the depth of a shared musical heritage, kept alive into the new century.

Peggy makes her home in Oxford, England, and 2012 marks her final international tours of the US and Australia, so this will be one of the very last opportunities to see her on this side of the pond. Reserve early. This will be a special show.

* Note Tax returns are actually due on Tuesday, April 17th this year, so put down the pencil, and make time for this great show.
