Born in Cape Town, South Africa, innovative architect Lindy Roy is the founder of New York-based ROY, known for its research-driven, conceptually based architecture in response to context, whether natural or urban. Roy defines architecture as part of an experience economy, with changing demands on the architectural profession. Recent projects confront nature's intricacies: the extreme heli-ski Wind River Lodge in Alaska, a hotel and spa in the Okavango Delta, Botswana, and a collaboration with photographer Richard Misrach on Cancer Alley, Louisiana. Other projects include the Vitra USA headquarters in Manhattan, Andre Balazs's Hotel QT in Times Square, L'Oreal's Living Labs, a poolhouse in Sagaponac NY, a bar in the meatpacking district, and High Line 519, a condo building in Manhattan. ROY also developed a brand environment for UK-based Access Storage Solutions with Bruce Mau.

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art held an exhibition of ROY's work in 2003 and other work is included in the Museum of Modern Art. ROY was the winner of MOMA/P.S.1 'Young Architects Competition' for 2001 and a finalist in the 'Times Capsule Competition' for The New York Times. Lindy Roy is also an associate professor at Cooper Union.
