ASCE COPRI Seattle Chapter Monthly Dinner Meeting - Sept 24, 2015
Topic: Elliott Bay Seawall Project

The Elliott Bay Seawall Project is a critical public safety enhancement, which will replace approximately 3,750 lineal feet of the existing seawall from S. Washington Street to Virginia Street with a structure that meets modern safety and design standards. The project also incorporates a habitat enhancement program including intertidal habitat benches, substrate enhancements, wall habitat surfaces, and an intertidal beach. In addition, enhancement of certain public amenities will include the restoration of the Washington Street Boat Landing, street plantings, and enhanced public viewing areas. This presentation will cover some history of the original seawall construction during the 1930's. The team will discuss the reasons for why its replacement is so critical to the Seattle Waterfront. Key design elements of the new seawall including jet grout will be highlighted. Finally, success stories around the critical coordination and project innovations -- such as soil freeze technology -- will conclude the talk.
