Cohen Bray House Harvest Party

The Cohen Bray House will be hosting a harvest party to celebrate the first season of growing in Oak Tree Farm in a century. It will be the afternoon of Sunday, October 18th from 1pm to 4pm. There will be pumpkin carving, bobbing for apples and live music from
Old Belle (http://oldbelle.com/). Kids are welcome!

The Dude's Brewery is our beer sponsor. All proceeds go to supporting the Cohen Bray House and Victory Community Garden.

Day of tickets available for $15 while supplies last.

Tours of the Cohen Bray House will be available.

Background on the Venue:

The beautiful Stick-style home was built in 1882-1884 by Julia Moses and Watson A. Bray for their daughter Emma, upon her marriage to Alfred H. Cohen, attorney. The families of both the bride and groom were wealthy and socially prominent. Watson Bray was a successful commodities broker while A. A. Cohen had established the first railroad and ferry system in Alameda County. He also served as chief attorney for the Central Pacific Railroad.

The house has never been sold out of the family and contains the original furniture, wallpaper, woodwork, and many personal objects. Stepping into the Cohen Bray House is stepping back 130 years into a unique and engaging world.

We have started a youth teaching garden called Oak Tree Farm in the back yard of the Cohen Bray House. So far we have modest crops of asparagus, hops (hence the connection to beer), tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, herbs and fruit trees. We are using the garden as a way to teach about soil, gardening, food, cooking and history. So far we have one school, Achieve Academy, and an after school program at the local rec center in Josie de la Cruz park coming for field trips. We hope that we will become a community resource, both for the local schools, and others in the general area.
