Title-24 Residential Envelope Design, Field Compliance and Third Party HERS Testing
The 2013 California Energy Code is requiring tighter building envelopes, additional ventilation, and stricter energy performance requirements. In this class, new energy code requirements pertaining to residential building envelope will be discussed. Home owners, developers, designers, architects, engineers and other building practitioners will learn a.) how to comply with Title 24; b.) why we energy model; c.) how HERS measures can boost energy savings and d.) what pitfalls can be avoided during construction.

Moe Fakih, LEED AP (O+M, Rater), CCP, GPR, BPI
Moe Fakih is the Director of Sustainability for VCA Green. He possesses both private and public sector experience. He worked as a City Planner in Orange County processing project entitlements totaling millions of dollars and presenting project details to the public. Prior to joining VCA Green, Mr. Fakih was principal at AEF Consulting, Engineering, & Construction, Inc., a consulting-construction firm specializing in California Green Building Code and LEED projects.
Early in his sustainability career, Mr. Fakih certified a LEED Existing Buildings Operations & Maintenance gold level hotel in San Francisco, the first hotel in the world to achieve the title. He later designed and built the first LEED Commercial Interior remodel in Anaheim Hills, implementing sustainable improvement strategies that reduced electricity costs by more than 50% and water consumption costs by 43%.
Mr. Fakih currently manages a strong team of project managers and energy consultants working on several projects in California. Last year his team uncovered $3.5 million in unrealized savings back to clients. Services include CALGreen Code, Commissioning, Energy Modeling, Green House Gas reporting, LEED, GreenPoint Rated, NGBS, HERS, and Energy Audits. The mission of VCA Green is to create Sustainable Opportunities. Both voluntary and code driven measures should provide economic benefits to our clients. Our objective is to maximize return on investment.
Glen Folland, LEED AP, CGBP, CEPE, HERS Rater
Glen Folland is a Project Manager for VCA Green. He became involved in sustainable design while completing his Bachelor's degree in Architecture at the Southern California Institute of Architecture and working part time at a top southern California MEP engineering firm. Practical, detailed and possessing a knack for software, he was attracted instantly to energy simulation modeling. Mr. Folland also performs Energy Modeling, HERS verifications and manages CALGreen, LEED and Green Point Rated projects.
Mr. Folland's passion rests in modeling buildings for maximum efficiency. Given a current design, he can assess existing construction practices and opportunities that can provide a better energy score, realize a higher rebate, and deliver better return on investment. His proactive efforts building modeling efforts have helped VCA clients save millions of dollars.
