Queer and Female-friendly Pornographies: Porn Dialogues

Women, queer and trans people are invited to join a seminar about queer and feminist pornographies and how they function, or are censored and resisted, in different cultures and communities. In this "porn dialogue," scholar Katrien Jacobs will discuss a selection of feminist and queer pornographies and sexually explicit arts, while analyzing their political and artistic values. She will then hold an audio-recorded discussion with the audience to see how people in San Francisco are responding to this wave of porn. (This recording will be utilized for her research purposes only.)

Please bring: One sample of a porn clip that you are very fond of and that expresses your own sexual environment (or an escape from it). The seminar will start with a lecture but also aims at a sharing session for participants to define the goals of feminist and queer pornography.

Katrien Jacobs is a cultural studies scholar currently based in Hong Kong and working at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She teaches seminars in Visual Cultural Studies and has written several books about pornography and digital media, as well contemporary art and political activism. She is also a curator and activist who has been involved in the Hong Kong Umbrella movement.
