Songwriter Circle with Cal Scott and Richard Moore, special guest Kathryn Claire

Veteran Portland singer-songwriters Cal Scott (Trail Band, Kevin Burke) and Richard Moore (The Wombats) welcome Kathryn Claire to their bimonthly circle at O'Connor's Vault in Multnomah Village.

The first three Songwriter Circles were sellouts. Cal Scott, Richard Moore and their guest artists were a delightful surprise not only to their audience, but to each other as well. So we're going to build on that success, this time with special guest Kathryn Claire, Monday, February 6 at 7:00pm.

Classically trained on the violin, Kathryn Claire added the guitar to her instrumental arsenal and employs both as a foundation for her compelling voice and intriguing songs. She's been busy performing around the Northwest, and the Far East (Japan) with multi-instrumentalist Hanz Araki, but we shoehorned this show into her schedule to share her talents with the Songwriter Circle audience. Claire's tunes bridge a personal presence with traditional folk style, and solid contemporary acoustic guitar. Lyrical melodies, and a heart-full folk soprano reminiscent of Baez are a far cry from today's brand of effected acoustic emo pop

As she croons and caresses the lyrics, her versatility as a songstress shines. She belts out throaty, emotion-rich lines then soars effortlessly into bell-like harmonies. Some songs leave you with goose bumps; some grab your attention like streams of sunlight breaking through clouds; others caress and push you the way wind bends branches.

The usual suspects bookending Kathryn will be Cal Scott, jack-of-many-genres who writes and performs with The Trail Band and Kevin Burke, and the word-witty and tunewise Richard Moore, likely to share a few more scenes from "Rain," his musical-in-the-works about Portland. Last time Cal and Richard debuted a song inspired by audience title suggestions at the previous show, and more are in the works.
