Global Classroom: The Struggle for Egypt

The revolution in Egypt that was sparked nearly a year ago has shaken the Arab world to its roots. Why and how did the revolution come to happen in January and February 2011? What has the fall of Mubarak's regime truly meant for the Egyptian people and for people across the Arab world? The most populous Arab country and the historical center of Arab intellectual life, Egypt is a lynchpin of the U.S.'s Middle East strategy, receiving more aid than any nation except Israel. What is next for Egypt, the region, and U.S.-Egypt relations?

Teachers will have a chance to ask these and other questions during an intimate teacher-only dialogue with Dr. Steven A. Cook before his public program. Dr. Cook is a senior fellow for Middle Eastern studies at the Council on Foreign Relations and author of The Struggle for Egypt: From Nasser to Tahrir Square. Dr. Cook was in Cairo during the historic events in Tahrir Square.
