The San Francisco Ballet's beautiful "Nutcracker" adds Christmas cheer to iFN's Cinema Meets Dance series, presented on the big screen at Arena Theater just in time for Christmas.
Choreographed by the brilliant Helgi Tomasson, San Francisco Ballet's magnificent production of Nutcracker is one of the world's finest productions of the classic ballet, playing to unanimous critic acclaim and sold-out audiences each December. Set to the music of legendary great Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky and conducted by one of the foremost conductors of ballet Martin West, Nutcracker is a treasured holiday tradition for families everywhere!
On this foggy Christmas Eve, unlike any other, the beloved characters are as enchanting as ever: the magical Uncle Drosselmeyer (Damian Smith), the beautiful and innocent Clara (Elizabeth Powell) and the charming and dreamy Nutcracker Prince (Davit Karapetyan) captivate audiences with their performances. Children play a crucial role in the ballet's atmosphere as well, commanding the stage as party guests, toy soldiers, baby mice and assorted extras. The lavish set designs by Michael Yeargan and dazzling costumes by Martin Pakledinaz are sure to mesmerize adults and children alike! With each scene of sugar plum fairies, fighting mice and magical journeys to enchanted lands more breathtaking than the last, Nutcracker truly is what dreams are made of.
