Experience Italy!

It's a truism that we are limited only by our imagination. Well this month let your imagination go wild and visit Italy, if only in your dreams. Thanks to the wonderful generosity of Cesar and Terese Abreu and the culinary expertise of the restaurant staff at the Hilton Garden Inn, our November tasting will feature Italian wine from a winery in the Tre Venezie region of Italy and Italian food.

Cesar's brother is stationed in Aviano, Italy and sent Cesar and Terese Abreu wine from Luciano Bessich Winery. These wines are not your well known Italian wines like Chianti or a wine from the Tuscany region in Italy. Be prepared to taste some unfamiliar wines such as Friulano (a dry white) or Refosco dal peduncolo rosso (a dry red). We also will have a sweet red, Bacche Rose and a sweet white, Verduzzo Friulano which we will pair with dessert. We will also try some more familiar wines such as Pinot Grigio, our greeting wine, or a Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot but be prepared to experience different taste sensations as these wines are produced to reflect the specific flavors of their region. To go along with the wines, we will have a self-serve pasta bar from The Great American Grill restaurant in the Hilton Garden Inn so everyone will be able to pair the food to the wines to suit their individual palates.

To help us navigate these unusual wines and the region in which they are produced, we will have the assistance of Durella DeGrasse, a certified wine professional and an alumna of Central Washington University's World Wine Program. She will share her love for Italian wine as well as expertise about the wines from this region in a brief introduction to the evening's tasting. Then we will simply enjoy the Italian experience.
