Regional Stormwater Monitoring Program and Eastern WA. Effectiveness Studies
Presenters: Karen Dinicola and Brandi Lubliner, Washington State Department of Ecology; and Art Jenkins, City of Spokane Valley.
This webinar will explore Washington State's Regional Stormwater Monitoring Programs (RSMP) including Eastern Washington Effectiveness Studies. The purpose of the RSMP is to conduct effective and efficient stormwater monitoring to assess which stormwater tools work best, where and why. In Puget Sound, status and trends monitoring includes wadeable streams and marine nearshore areas to assess whether conditions are improving. A pollutant source identification information repository for Western Washington will help reduce illicit discharges by sharing methods and targeting common problems with regional solutions. Numerous effectiveness studies will be conducted all around the State.

In addition to providing financial and administrative efficiencies and transparent oversight, the RSMP process allows priorities to be set by stakeholders rather than by the regulatory agency alone. An important aspect of the RSMP is the significant and meaningful outreach to a wide range of stakeholders, including non-profit organizations, interested citizens, the business community and public sector partners.

The webinar will provide an overview of the various projects and programs including early study results showing bioretention's effectiveness in reducing toxicity to pre-spawn Coho salmon, and the overall experience of developing stormwater monitoring programs for three distinct regions of Washington State.
