Mini-Altar Making Workshop

Pre-registration is highly suggested for this limited room two-hour class.

This workshop is taught by one of the region's foremost authorities on Mexican Folk Art with a specialty and fascination with Day of the Dead, Maribel Siman-DeLucca. Maribel takes great pride in explaining the traditions and symbols of this important Latin American tradition.

We will provide material and personal instruction to help you create an altar in celebration of your departed loved ones. The class is given using a small wooden shadow box, with which you will prepare a traditional altar. You may dedicate the ofrenda to one or more loved ones. A wide selection of small objects that represent a person's hobbies, likes, and personality will be provided to choose from; it is suggested that you bring small copies of photos of the loved ones to whom you wish to dedicate your altar. It will be a creative and fun experience.

The objects of art presented reflect the very Mexican idea of celebrating life through the celebration of Death.

About the teacher and her business: Back from Tomboctou
For close to three decades now Claudio and Maribel DeLucca have been dealing with high quality Latin American Folk Art. Their life's work in this field has contributed to the dissemination and increased popularity of Día de los Muertos in the US.

Because of their Latino background and professional training, they have dealt extensively with the deeply rooted traditions in Mexican Folk Art, with a special fascination with Day of the Dead. They have become one of the largest importers of Mexican Day of the Dead merchandise to the US.
