The Two Gentleman of Verona
THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA PRESENTED BY SLIGHTLY ASKEW THEATRE ENSEMBLE:
NOVEMBER 10-19 AT 8:00PM

Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble (SATE) will produce William Shakespeare's The Two Gentlemen of Verona from November 10-19 at 8:00PM, Thursdays through Saturdays, at The Black Cat Theater, 2810 Sutton Boulevard.

The Two Gentlemen of Verona is one of William Shakespeare's earliest comedies.  The story lends itself to a youthful interpretation.  Most of the characters are little more than children themselves: impetuous, misguided and willful.  The action is driven by all the ingredients for a coming of age love story: True love, separation, treachery, banishment, disguise, confrontation, reunion, redemption and two weddings.

SATE started working on The Two Gentlemen of Verona as a staged reading on a playground in Shaw Park.  The swing set was Verona.  A bridge with towers and slides at each end became the Duke's palace in Milan.  A huge hollow tree surrounded by rocks perfectly represented a forest on the frontier of Mantua.  The set transformed the players into children acting out their elaborate make believe.

The current production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona is inspired by that experience.  Bringing it inside will require that the playground be replaced by a playroom.  The child like imagination remains, turning toys and games into locations, props and costumes.  The roles of the two gentlemen will continue to be played by women along with other non-traditional casting.  The script has been adapted to keep the action moving for audiences of all ages.

The performing ensemble includes Kara Bellavia, Tonya Darabcsek, Holly Hill, Michael Pierce, William Rauch*, Ellie Schwetye, Rachel Tibbetts and Chrissy Young.   The production is directed by William Rauch.

Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased with cash, check or at Brown Paper Tickets.  Please call (314) 827-5760, email tickets@slightlyoff.org or visit the SATE website at slightlyoff.org for more information.
