Wine Wednesdays: A World Tour of Wine
Covering a wide range of wines and styles, through tasting, conversation, and images we will visit some of the major wine growing regions of the world.  In conjunction with our journey through flavor, place, and time, we will also cover some basics of wine, including the affects of altitude, soil, barrel age, and of course, what the winemaker chooses to do with the process.

Here are some "teasers" for the regions and wines we will taste and explore:

North America
For our opening sparkling wine, we will taste a beautiful example of the melding of cultures.  What happens when a famous French Estate makes wine in the traditional Champagne method using grapes from highly select Northern California vineyards?  The result is distinctly American in boldness and French in style.

Australia
Sure, we could taste a Shiraz, but instead we will be showing an extremely rare and highly collectible Australian Pinot Noir.  Only 300 cases were made of this wine, and we have the last dozen bottles.  Do not miss this chance to try this beautiful, complex wine.  It's the chance of a lifetime.

South America
Malbec from South America may be famous now, but what was its origin there? Through the tasting experience of Argentina's first named wine region , the Lujan de Cuyo, we will remind ourselves why Argentine Malbec has become so famous.  With vineyards at an average altitude of 3500 feet, the wine takes on a similarly dramatic flair.

Asia
Another rare taste here: we will try a stunning white wine from Turkey made from native grapes that may be some of the oldest varietals on earth.  Never heard of Turkish wine? They have only been making it for about 3000 years.  Experience shows in this gorgeous white.

Africa
South Africa is famous for its wild game and for the art of the brai (BBQ).  Put the two together and we need a wine to match.  Smoky, dark, with hints of melted licorice, we'll try a Cabernet Sauvignon that you will never, ever forget as long as you live.

Europe
At one of our earlier tastings we showed an Italian dessert wine so beautiful that we sold out of the wine then and there.  We will offer one more chance to taste this lovely, not-too-sweet wine that dazzled the audience with its complex aromatics and light but expressive style.  As one audience member (who is experienced in wine) put it, "this is as good or better than any Sauternes I've ever had."
