Chuckanut Radio Hour with Special Guests Wes Gannaway & Kent Holsather
The Chuckanut Radio Hour is a radio variety show that began in January 2007.  Each Chuckanut Radio Hour features a guest author and includes guest musicians, performance poet Kevin Murphy, Cascadia Weekly columnist Alan Rhodes, an episode of "The Bellingham Bean" serial radio comedy, and some groaner jokes by hosts Chuck & Dee Robinson and announcer Rich Donelly. The Chuckanut Radio Hour's first guest was Erik Larson and has since included William Dietrich, Elizabeth George, J.A. Jance, Sherman Alexie, Tom Robbins and Garrison Keillor, among many others. This month's musical performers are the group Vibram Souls. Doors open at 6:30pm, and you must be seated by 6:45pm as the show begins promptly at 7pm. Co-sponsored by the Leopold Residence.

Our September guest will be local authors Wes Gannaway Kent Holsather for their co-authored book Bays to Bells. The book is the story of baseball in Whatcom County from the earliest known references to 2011. Village Books is pleased to carry copies of Bays to Bells.

Wes Gannaway has been involved with local history since the mid-1980s. Although Wes isn't a native of Whatcom County, his roots go back to the early Oregon Territory years. Recently retired from a 39 year career at the Arco/BP refinery, Wes is heavily involved with the Whatcom County Historical Society and the restoration of the 153-year-old brick Whatcom County Courthouse on E Street in Bellingham. Wes and his wife Deborah also travel to old mining towns around the Western US looking for rare minerals and the elusive gold.

Kent Holsather has had an affiliation with the diamond since he put on his first itchy Little League uniform for Puget Sound Freight at Sunnyland Grade School back in the summer of 1958. Since that time he has played a total of 51 years of baseball and softball including a promising 2011 campaign with the Sanitary Service team of the men's slo pitch league. His passion for local history and love of the great game of baseball commingled into a literary work that will hopefully keep the history of the sport alive in Whatcom County.
