From Tripoli to Tehran: U.S. Multilateral Engagement in a Time of Upheaval
Featuring a Networking Reception with Legal Leaders from North Africa and the Middle East

2011 has already witnessed the toppling of governments in Egypt and Tunisia, a sustained rebellion in Libya, and grassroots protests across North Africa, the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, and even into China. How is the Obama Administration working through the United Nations to advance U.S. foreign policy goals in our rapidly changing world? How has President Obama's "era of engagement" changed U.S. multilateral diplomacy strategies and U.S. standing across the globe? Why does U.S. diplomacy across the United Nations system matter?

The World Affairs Council presents Dr. Esther Brimmer, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs, for an interactive discussion on the Obama Administration's approach to the United Nations and response to the rapidly changing political environment across North Africa and the Middle East. Dr. Brimmer will also address the changing nature of U.S. diplomacy in the 21st century and the impact -- and benefits -- of multilateral engagement in an era of rapid globalization and change.

Note:  The pre-event reception will feature a special delegation of legal leaders and specialists from North African and the Middle East.
