PRIMAL: Revisited
Primal: Revisited explores the fundamental wants, needs and responses that have existed from the beginning of time for humanity.  Told through the structure of Viewpoints (a movement-based actor training method created by Anne Bogart and Tina Landau), and based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, Primal: Revisited uses movement, text and music to create a progression of physical, vocal and emotional pictures which represents everyone's desire to reach their full potential, from the most basic needs of food and shelter, to the peak  a desire for self-actualization and transcendence.  The original production was originally conceived by Pamela Reckamp and was a 2009 Kevin Kline Award Nominee for Best Ensemble in a Play.  The new offering will utilize certain elements from the original production along with re-imagined scenes created by current Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble members.
The performing ensemble includes Tonya Darabcsek, Johanna Elkana-Hale, William Rauch*, Ellie Schweyte, and Rachel Tibbetts.
*Denotes member of Actors' Equity Association

Each performance of Primal: Revisited will be followed by a talk back session using Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process; a method that nurtures the development of artistic works-in-progress through a four-step, facilitated dialogue between artists, peers, and audiences.  The process was first introduced to SATE through the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission's Community Arts Training (CAT) Institute.  Current ensemble member Rachel Tibbetts is a graduate of the program and the ensemble has been invited to share scenes from its original production Primal for the last three CAT classes.  The success of these "scene sharings" precipitated the ensemble's desire to revisit Primal and create a stronger, more cohesive piece of work.  Complimentary wine and cheese will be offered to those in the audience who stay for a talk back session.
