Bortle 8 - to the roof and beyond
Bortle 8 is performed on a rooftop in South Philadelphia, with the city skyline as a back drop. Each show is timed with the setting of the sun.  This unique theatrical experience combines live theater, a dynamic sound design, and the setting of the sun, to produce one, unforgettable show.

A search for darkness in an age of artificial light. Bortle 8 goes from the depths of the ocean to the night sky in the hopes of finding the last untouched place on Earth.

Reviews:

"Bortle 8 by Chris Davis is the result of putting David Sedaris, William S. Burroughs, and Ray Bradbury in a blender and serving the residue as a Jell-O shot."

- Pittsburgh Stage Magazine

"With nary a prop, using only his own body and a highly developed space substance technique along with a brilliant audio track, Davis takes us from outer space to deep below the ocean in a 55-minute stream-of-consciousness romp."

- Ithaca Fringe Festival

"At one of these row homes, Chris recited Bortle 8 on a rooftop stage against the backdrop of a setting sun. It was a spiritual quest and a space ritual at once, with several modes of transportation, and it felt like Chris gathered up the entire audience and led them over land, through the sky, and into the ocean's depths."

Sandro Braidotti, Geekadelphia

"Davis (directed by Mary Tuomanen) employs poetic stream-of-consciousness narration, melding astronomer John Bortle's scientific theory with self-exploration, personal reminiscences, and fantasy travel through the 'terra incognita' of life and the cosmos."

Debra Miller, Phindie

"[An] idiosyncratic, well-constructed journey that moves between memory and fantasy, past water and light pollution and way into space."

Kathryn Osenlund, Phindie
