Spoke the Hub Gowanus Guest Room presents THE OUT OF TOWNER'S SERIES
Curated by Brooklyn independent dancer/choreographer Erin Gottwald, this newest of Spoke the Hub's concert
series gathers artists and performers of all stylistic bents from cities beyond New York, providing a window into unknown dance territory. These out-of-towners have been invited to share their work in the artistically burgeoning industrial and residential neighborhood of the Gowanus in Brooklyn.

WHO'S ON THE PROGRAM?
Spank Dance Company of Austin will present the premier of "I Always, You Never", choreographed by director
Ellen Bartel and the performers, Jennifer McGowan and Amy Myers Martin. Using techniques that demanded high creativity and participation, the collaborators developed the text and movement through in-depth exploration of shared and released weight.

Hole Dance Films of Jackson Hole will present a live dance/film event titled "Elusive Stranger" that lures spectators into a surreal world: strands of pearls are pulled out of the air, shoes defy gravity by falling up, and a mysterious woman drifts from town to town embodying hypnotic grace and finesse. Through precise and whimsical gestures, the choreography takes her to an unexpected place where stage and screen begin to interact  once the two are seen together, neither one can stand alone. As the piece unfolds, the source of her magic is revealed.

From Oakland, Nina Haft & Company present two works that showcase Haft's deeply kinesthetic inquiries into
matters of the heart and mind: "Debris Flows" an intricate, vigorous quartet inspired by cataclysmic mudflows and the role humans play in creating 'natural disasters,' with music by the Kronos Quartet; and "Dead on the Road", a triptych of short dances about road-kill, Little Red Riding Hood, Gulf Birds covered in oil, and other heightened encounters with wilderness, accompanied by an original sound design by Matt Payne.

Working out of Boston, Caitlin Corbett presents "no obvious poetry, either" (2010), an intricately structured quartet danced by Leah Bergmann, Kaela Lee, Meghan McLyman and Nicole Pierce that is both driven and inspired by the high-energy music of The Books. "Rock, Scissors, Paper" (2001) is a gawky, unsentimental,fast-paced work for a trio of dancers set to the music of Henry Cow.
