The Musical "Bye Bye Birdie"
Most of us recognize "Bye Bye Birdie" from the prominent mention of it on "Mad Men," when the Sterling Cooper agency tried to copy Ann-Margaret minimalist opening number for a diet soda commercial. But when the movie musical premiered on April 4, 1963, it was a huge smash. It made an instant star out of Ann-Margaret, as well as boosting the fame of co-stars Dick Van Dyke and Paul Lynde.
Anna Arts Center presents "Bye Bye Birdie," a stage musical, which was inspired by the phenomenon of popular singer Elvis Presley and his draft notice into the Army in 1957. A rock singer travels to a small Ohio town to make his "farewell" television performance and kiss his biggest fan before he is drafted. The musical is a vibrant, high-energy and entertaining trip back to a time when innocence was taken for granted and popular music was changing quickly.
"Bye Bye Birdie" should be a great time that will entertain the whole family. June 19 and 20 at 7pm June 21 at 2 pm Anna Arts Center, 125 West Davie Street, Anna, IL 62906 Tickets $12
