Make It Happen: Producing and Hosting The Live Storytelling Event
Do you dream of producing and hosting your own live event in Chicago?  Are you you currently hosting or producing an event and want to up your game?  Learn the basics, pick up some advanced tips and tricks, and develop a game plan for your own successful show or series.

This 3-hour class will set you up for success as a storytelling event producer and host, but is also useful to those looking to put on alternate events such as fundraisers, readings, comedy shows, etc.

No experience is necessary!  

We will cover the most important aspects of production, including venue selection, booking, promotion and press, show structure, setting the space, growing an audience, night-of considerations, and troubleshooting.  

We will also take a hands-on approach to the most vital elements of show hosting, including dynamic openings, taking care of your performers and audience, effective banter, handling the unexpected, and methods for gaining confidence and developing personal style.  

Instructor Info:
Scott Whitehair has produced and hosted This Much Is True, one of the city's longest running storytelling events, for the past 8 years. He is also the creator of Story Lab Chicago, which has put over 300 new and first-time storytellers on stage since 2011.

In the past several years, Scott has produced Old School/New School, Interface, Adult Education at The Acorn, and both Chicago's Biggest Liar Contests, the last of which sold out at 460 attendees. He is currently producing Do Not Submit, a series of 10+ storytelling open mics all over the city.

Scott has told stories anywhere somebody will listen, including The Steppenwolf,Second City, The Green Mill, Chicago Public Radio, Risk! Podcast, Write Club, Here's the Story, Grown Folks Stories, Story Club, Paper Machete, 2nd Story, Essay Fiesta, and Real Talk Live, to name just a few. Scott is a MothSLAM Chicago winner and Runner-Up at The 2012 Windy City Story Slam All-City Championships, and has participated in The Printer's Row Lit Festival, Fillet of Solo Festival, Rhino Fest, Chicago Improv Festival, and The Association of Writers & Writing Programs Conference.

His monthly class has been filling to capacity for the last 3 years, and he is an in-demand facilitator, host, and speaker for non-profits and corporations in the greater Chicago area.

Scott was recently was appointed to the Board of Directors for the National Storytelling Network, and was the featured instructor at Hong Kong Story Worthy Week 2014, which was headlined by David Sedaris.
