In the '70's, Steve Goodman (City of New Orleans) recorded Michael Smith's "The Dutchman," and Chicago music lovers discovered more and more of Smith's songs. Michael relocated to the windy city and became a regular at top folk venues such as The Earl of Old Town, Somebody Else's Troubles, Holstein's, No Exit, LilFest and Orphan's. He played the Philadelphia Folk Festival, worked with John Prine and taught (and teaches) at the Old Town School of Folk Music. Michael wrote the music for the Steppenwolf production of John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. He toured with that production for two years to Chicago, La Jolla, London, England, and Broadway - a two-Tony-winning production. His songwriting can be wry, heartfelt, witty or humorous, but always intelligent and engaging.

Tim Grimm has performed in theaters and coffeehouses around the US, as well as Festivals, including the Kerrville Folk Festival, Wildflower Festival, Fox Valley, the Pawtucket Arts Festival, the Indiana Festival at Conner Prairie. Each September he hosts the Driftwood Valley Music Festival in Indiana. He has filmed three major motion pictures this past year, including The Express, with Dennis Quaid, and Public Enemies, with Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. Tim has also toured and recorded with his friend, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, appeared with Harrison Ford in the film Clear and Present Danger, and has shared the stage with writer and poet Wendell Berry. His many on-stage theater roles include work with New Yorker Jeffrey Sweet's in his plays, Bluff and Class Dismissed. This is a suggested donation concert.
