There will be funk, soul, r&b and rock happening at the Lizard Lounge tonight. Jen Kearney & The Lost Onion are an original soul/latin/funk/rock band from Boston, Massachusetts. Their vocal/lyric driven style is ever-evolving, but has been compared to R&B artists Stevie Wonder, The Brand New Heavies, Daniel Merriweather, Erykah Badu. Its tough to pigeonhole this band into a particular genre and they like it that way.

Jen Kearney's lyrically driven songs are delivered sometimes by Jen as a solo artist and sometimes with a powerhouse rhythm section, lead guitar and horn section.  Musically, the songs range in style from funk to soul; latin to rock.  Jen's voice and songwriting style has been compared to 70's era Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, The Brand New Heavies, Santana, Joss Stone, Nikka Costa, but her style is her certainly her own.  Jen and the band are tough to pigeonhole into a genre and they like it that way. With a long string of gigs behind them, this well seasoned group of musicians continues to evolve and grow in musical prowess.  Collectively, they have been lucky enough to tour the country a bit and share the stage with national acts including: The Derek Trucks Band, Los Lobos, Daryl Hall, Mavis Staples, Lettuce, Soulive, Chaka Khan.

THE BLUE RIBBONS
The Blue Ribbons was formed by singer/songwriter/keyboardist James Rohr. They have been building a base of devoted fans with their original and soulful music. Described as
"Ray Charles and Tom Waits on a pirate ship with Sun Ra and Captain Beefheart," they
combine "upbeat disillusionment and celebratory fatalism with musicianship"  Charan Devereux;Boston Globe.

Together and individually, the members of The Ribbons have performed and/or recorded with: Sarah Borges, Geoff Farina, Bow Thayer, Eddie Kirkland, Miss Tess, NRBQ, Levon Helm, Edgar Winter, Booker T. Jones, Larry Campbell, Stu Kimball, and Ringo Starr.

All very active musicians, each member of The Blue Ribbons brings his influences and experiences to the music and this is at the heart of their creativity. Anything goes in this band, and it usually does.

More on Jen Kearney and The Lost Onion...
"Picture if you will an amalgam of War and the Grateful Dead with elements of funk jazz and you will likely come up with an approximation, howsoever poor, of the brassy voiced Jen Kearney as she skillfully steers this collection's opening track "Waiting For It." Subsequent numbers explore Earth, Wind and Fire style R&B ("Too Far"); soul-stirring electric piano funk ("Overwhelming"); melodic jazzy piano balladry ("Corner of My Eye"); a Latin-flavored dance number ("Better"); and Funkadelic style heaviness also reminiscent of Stevie Wonder ("What If"). She also offers up a calm, gospel-styled piece ("Age of Blame," and, to top it all off, an ambitiously slow and decidedly trippy slow burner of a number called "Sanctuary in Sabotage." Those who revere 1970s-era jazz, R&B and funk stylings will find a great deal to like in these original compositions."
