Labour and Leisure - Joe Orton Plays

Despite his short but prolific career, Joe Orton could very well be considered one of Britain's top-playwrights of the twentieth century. He shocked, outraged and amused audiences with his scandalous black comedies. In celebration of this theatrical madman, we are producing two of Joe Orton's lesser produced and extremely under-rated plays, The Good and Faithful Servant and The Erpingham Camp.

In the Good and Faithful Servant, what happens when Buchanan, a slave to the routine life of his workplace is united with long lost family? Does the corporate puppet-master, Mrs. Vealfoy drag the entire family into the depths of corporate hell or does Buchanan's retirement break the chains of corporate slavery?

Orton's own adaptation of The Bacchae, The Erpingham Camp is a farce in which a respectable group of English campers are innocently pleasuring themselves at a 1960's holiday camp before catastrophe strikes and they find themselves fighting against the camp's rigid, moral and patronising manager, "Erpingham". When their rights are violated, the campers take a stand. Led by a bloke in leopard-skin and a chap with no pants, the revolution is ignited and pandemonium reigns!!
